History of the Percheron
The Percheron originated in La Perche, France and is one of the most elegant of the draft horse breeds. The influence of the Arabian can be seen particularly in their free-flowing and active stride. The Percheron has been used to farm, artillery work, as a workhorse, riding, and in the show ring. Characteristically, the Percheron has a very fine head which is attributed to their Arab blood. Typically they are black or gray and stand between 16.0 hh to 18.1 hh. They truly are gentle giants.
Doc
Doc is a 14 year old Percheron gelding. He has been in many parades and was a lead horse in the Hemmersbach Percherons six horse hitch. In his career as a show horse he has won many ladies cart classes and placed in the top seven at the 2004 World Percheron Congress in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Recently, Doc has been given the honors of pulling our carriage for weddings and special occasions. Doc is very photogenic and would love to be part of your special event!
